Why We Do What We Do
May 21st, 2013 by Jack HigginbothamMotorsports and PRS intersect in various ways, none of which is more important to me than the charity event that we’ve put on for several years for the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. NASA Mid-Atlantic director Chris Cobetto has made “Laps For Life” part of his annual Hyperfest event at Summit Point Raceway and we are now years down the road. This year’s event will be held on June 15th.
Cancer is an insidious thing it is all too familiar for most of us. A great friend and fellow Porsche racer, Bill Repass has been battling cancer furiously and has first-hand experience at the Kimmel Cancer Center. Bill has supported “Laps For Life” since the beginning and has even won the pledge drive on one occasion. It makes sense that he and his wife Debbie will be guests of honor at the event and be in the pace car. I have the honor of racing Bill’s #51 Porsche and hope to make a decent showing. By going to the “Pledge” section of the “Laps” site, you will see Bill’s image and you can still select him as a driver….hey, it’s his car after all! My laps will count towards his fundraising total.
Thanks to everyone who has helped to make a difference for the patients and their families at the Kimmel Cancer Center and if you can make it to the event, please stop by my paddock and say “hi”.
