Homestead – GRAND AM Rolex Series

May 4th, 2012 by Jack Higginbotham

This past weekend (April 28th) the Grand-Am Rolex series ran at Homestead in torrential rains, and we fired up Laps For Life 2012.

In Miami, Wayne Taylor’s SunTrust Racing Team with Max Angellelli and Ricky Taylor driving took the DP win with Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas in second. David Donahue and Darren Law took the last podium position.
In GT, the AIM Autosport Ferrari had their first win with the new Italia 458 while Team Sahlen was second with their RX8 and the Stevenson Motorsports Camaro was third. We are looking forward to the New Jersey Motorsports May 12-13 whlre we will catch up with the teams and fans.

While the rain was pouring in Florida over the weekend, intermittent rain and sleet showers were on tap Saturday at the NASA Mid-Atlantic event at Summit Point. We were able to get Laps For Life kick started for the 2012 Hyperfest Event with the proceeds going to Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. As in years past, Hyperfest event drivers will raise pledges based on how many laps they complete in the Saturday race. The driver that raises the most money will receive a PRS Starla autographed by many of the past winners of the 24 Hours of Daytona Rolex event. To either make a pledge for a driver or to make a general contribution, click the Laps For Life button above.

If you make it to the NJ race, drop by the Grand-Am fan zone to check out the PRS SE trophy guitar which is available exclusively through Guitar Center.

High School Guitarists, Start Your Engines – Race to the Stage Registration is Open!

Alex Trimblett

PRS Guitars, In Tune Monthly Magazine, and Guitar Center have teamed up to give guitar students PRS SE gear and the opportunity to perform onstage with a professional band—opening for a national act—at three GRAND-AM Road Races this summer. We just completed the Orlando, FL Race to the Stage event where 16 year old Alex Trimblett opened up for Orianthi after impressing judges at the Guitar Center Orlando PRS Fan Day. And we are excited to continue these events across the US through the summer!

Here’s how it works: Guitar students between the ages of 13 -19 can register for Race to the Stage auditions at http://intunemonthly.com/racetothestage/register/. Each participant will perform at a Guitar Center PRS Fan Day using a Blues backing track during the audition (Participants can use their own guitar or a guitar provided at the audition). Each participant will be given a total score by the Judges Panel based a variety of considerations including talent, poise, and overall presentation. One winner will be selected from each audition. Winners will receive a PRS SE guitar and SE amplifier and will win the opportunity to perform at a corresponding GRAND-AM race.

Auditions will be held at Guitar Center stores in Indianapolis, IN; Syracuse, NY; and Laguna Hills, CA. For more details and official rules, please visit www.intunemonthly.com/racetothestage. Full coverage of the Orlando/24 Hours At Daytona event can be found in the April issue of In Tune Monthly.

About PRS Racing

PRS Guitars is partnering with GRAND-AM Road Racing for the third straight year in 2012. For the second year, PRS is again providing winners in both the Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype (DP) and Grand Touring (GT) classes with a unique trophy—a fully functional PRS SE Singlecut guitar customized with GRAND-AM and Rolex Sports Car Series logos.

Two exciting new elements have also been added in select locations for the 2012 season: pre-race Fan Days at area Guitar Center stores, featuring In Tune’s Race to the Stage auditions for local high-school age guitar players, and race-day concerts. Additional elements in conjunction with the 24 Hours At Daytona season-opening race, including a VIP sweepstake from Guitar Aficionado and Guitar Center’s Platinum Room, are also helping to pump up the excitement for 2012.
